LotsBlog vs Ghost: A Ghost Alternative for Your AI Agent

LotsBlog is the Ghost alternative for a blog your AI agent writes and runs: $9 per blog or $24 for three, with an MCP server and a REST API on every plan and yourdomain.com/blog included. Ghost(Pro) is built for newsletters and paid memberships. Its MCP server covers Ghost's developer docs, and its Admin API starts on the Publisher plan.

So if you write in ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code and want the agent to draft, schedule and publish a company or product blog, LotsBlog fits. If your blog is a publication that lives on email subscribers and paid members, Ghost is built for that.

Everything about Ghost below comes from Ghost's own pricing page, changelog and developer docs, checked on 15 October 2026, with links at the end. I'm comparing Ghost(Pro), the hosted service, and I cover self-hosted Ghost separately, because the two differ on price and plan gates.

Where LotsBlog is the better choice

An MCP server that runs the blog, not the docs

If you searched for a Ghost MCP server, here's what it does. Ghost publishes an MCP server at docs.ghost.org/mcp, and its tools are search_ghost_developer_docs, query_docs_filesystem_ghost_developer_docs and submit_feedback. The server's own instructions say that, apart from feedback, it's read-only and scoped to Ghost Developer Docs. It helps an agent answer questions about Ghost. It doesn't create a post on your site.

LotsBlog's MCP server at https://api.lots.blog/mcp is the blog itself. Once your agent connects, it can create and update articles, upload images, set topics, schedule, publish and unpublish, connect a domain and read analytics. The same operations are in the REST API for scripts, CI or your own app. Drafts never publish until you tell the agent to, and scheduled posts go out on the next 15-minute check.

Agent access from the first blog, at $9

To publish to Ghost(Pro) from code or an agent, you use the Admin API, and Ghost's pricing page lists the Admin API, custom integrations and webhooks on Publisher and above, not on Starter. Publisher is $29 a month billed yearly or $35 billed monthly at 1,000 members, and the price rises with your member count.

Then there's the wiring. Ghost's docs explain that you create a Custom Integration in Ghost Admin to get an Admin API key, turn that key into a short-lived JSON Web Token for each request, and send posts to POST /admin/posts/ as Lexical or as HTML with ?source=html, which Ghost converts and calls lossy. Your agent needs code or a tool you build around that.

On LotsBlog, the MCP server and REST API are included on every plan and on pay as you go: $9 a month for one blog, and you connect through your agent's own MCP sign-in.

yourdomain.com/blog on every plan

Ghost(Pro) sites run on a root domain or a subdomain through a CNAME record. For example.com/blog, the pricing page lists a managed subdirectory install as a $50 a month add-on, available on the Business plan only, and says it requires you to run your own self-hosted reverse proxy with a custom configuration. Business starts at $199 a month billed yearly.

LotsBlog serves any blog at a path on your own site on every plan. Your agent calls connect_domain with /blog, and you get copy-ready rewrite rules for Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Next.js, Netlify or Nginx. Add one rule, and check_domain confirms it. Canonical URLs, the sitemap, RSS and llms.txt then use example.com/blog. The full walkthrough is in How to Host Your Blog at yourdomain.com/blog With LotsBlog.

A flat price per blog, and several blogs in one plan

Ghost's prices follow your audience: the pricing page slider is based on members, and Business lists 10,000. LotsBlog prices follow the number of blogs. Posts, page views and authors are unlimited, so neither traffic nor subscribers change the bill.

BlogsLotsBlog a month
1$9 (pay as you go)
3$24 (Starter)
10$69 (Pro)
30$159 (Business)

Yearly plans cost ten times the monthly price. Pro and Business also include LotsNotes Pro. Full details are in LotsBlog Pricing Explained and on lots.blog/pricing.

Search controls your agent can set

Every LotsBlog post ships with metadata, a canonical URL, article and breadcrumb schema, and FAQ schema when the post has a visible FAQ. New posts are announced to search engines through IndexNow. Your agent can set a canonical URL per post when you cross-post, and write the blog's robots.txt through update_blog, so you decide which AI crawlers read the blog. I wrote up how that works in How to Let AI Crawlers Read Your Blog.

A private guide your agent reads every session

Each LotsBlog blog has an optional private Markdown guide with your audience, voice, facts and rules. Your agent reads it with get_blog before it writes, so you don't repeat your rules in every chat.

What Ghost does well

Newsletters and memberships. Ghost sends your posts as email newsletters, runs free and paid memberships with tiers and offers, and takes 0% in transaction fees on paid plans. It added email sequences for new members in June 2026 and automation analytics in October 2026. If the blog is the newsletter, Ghost is built for that.

A publication's toolkit. Hundreds of themes in the Marketplace and custom themes from Publisher up, comments, ActivityPub to reach the social web, 8,000+ integrations through Zapier and n8n, and native analytics.

AI discovery files. Since July 2026, Ghost can serve llms.txt and a Markdown copy of each post when you turn it on under Settings, Meta data. It's off by default on existing sites.

Open source. You can run Ghost yourself. Ghost's docs recommend an Ubuntu server with at least 1GB of memory and Node.js 22 LTS, and note that self-hosters pay for their own email delivery, analytics and CDN and handle updates. The Ghost(Pro) plan gates above don't apply to your own server, but the work does.

How to run your blog from your AI agent

Connect LotsBlog to the agent you already use. In ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, give it this:

Read https://lots.blog/skill.md and connect LotsBlog. Then create a blog for my company, connect it at example.com/blog and give me the rewrite rule for Vercel. Read our three latest posts on our current blog and save each one as a private draft with the same title and slug, grouped into topics. Don't publish anything until I say so.

Your agent creates the blog, returns the rewrite rule and a secret to store as LOTSBLOG_PROXY_SECRET, saves the drafts, and gives you a preview link for each. When you're happy, tell it to publish one or schedule them a day apart. If you keep a Ghost newsletter running for a while, your agent can set each LotsBlog post's canonical URL to the original article so search engines know which one counts.

Which one should you choose?

Choose LotsBlog if:

  • You write with ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code and want the agent to run the blog through MCP.
  • You want your blog at yourdomain.com/blog without a Business plan or your own proxy.
  • You want a price per blog, with no member counts and no post or page-view limits.
  • You run more than one blog, or may add some.
  • Your newsletter can live in beehiiv or Buttondown.

Choose Ghost(Pro) if:

  • Your blog is a newsletter or a paid membership business.
  • You want themes, comments, member tiers and email built into one platform.
  • You're happy to wire the Admin API yourself on Publisher or above.

Common questions

Is LotsBlog a Ghost alternative?

Yes, for a blog your AI agent writes and runs. LotsBlog costs $9 per blog or $24 for three, includes an MCP server and REST API on every plan, and serves blogs on a custom domain or at yourdomain.com/blog. For paid memberships and built-in newsletters, Ghost is built for that.

Does Ghost have an MCP server?

Yes, for its developer docs. The server at docs.ghost.org/mcp searches and reads the Ghost Developer Docs and is read-only apart from a documentation feedback tool. It doesn't create or edit posts on your site; publishing goes through the Admin API.

Can an AI agent publish to Ghost(Pro)?

Yes, through the Admin API, which Ghost lists on the Publisher plan and above, not on Starter. You create a Custom Integration for an Admin API key, sign a short-lived token for each request, and send posts as Lexical or HTML. Your agent needs code or a tool built around that.

How much does Ghost(Pro) cost?

Checked on 15 October 2026: Starter is $18 a month or $180 a year. Publisher is $29 a month billed yearly or $35 billed monthly, at 1,000 members. Business is $199 a month billed yearly or $239 billed monthly. Prices rise with your member count, and Custom plans are quoted.

Can I host a Ghost(Pro) blog at yourdomain.com/blog?

Only on the Business plan, as a $50 a month add-on, and Ghost says it requires your own self-hosted reverse proxy. LotsBlog serves a blog at yourdomain.com/blog on every plan through one rewrite rule, with rules for Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Next.js, Netlify and Nginx.

Can LotsBlog send a newsletter or run paid memberships?

For the newsletter, LotsBlog connects to beehiiv or Buttondown: it adds signup forms to the blog and hands each post to your newsletter, which sends it. Paid memberships, no. If the blog is a paid membership, Ghost is built for that.
